Background
The Equal Rights Coalition (ERC) is an intergovernmental body of 42 Member States dedicated to the protection of the rights of LGBTIQ+ persons. Since its foundation in 2016 at the Global LGBTIQ Human Rights Conference in Montevideo, the ERC has advanced the human rights of LGBTIQ+ persons and promoted inclusive development, in both member and non-member countries, by engaging with civil society organizations, multilateral agencies, and activists from all over the world. The current co-chairs of the Coalition are Mexico and Germany, selected for the 2022-2024 term alongside their civil society counterparts, Fundación Arcoíris and the Lesbian and Gay Federation in Germany-LSVD.
Through its four thematic areas, the Equal Rights Coalition brings together stakeholders from every region in the world to work together on Donor Coordination, International Diplomacy, National Laws and Policies, and SDGs and the 2030 Agenda. By working closely and collaboratively, all participants in the Coalition share the common goal to advance the human rights of all people, and to ensure their inclusive development, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and sex characteristics.
